Especially when the Seven Sisters all crowd him too. The triumphant music, the way Beatrice and the Illusions all crowd Battler with hugs and celebration, it's just so touching. I think my favorite scene might just be when Beatrice defeats Erika in EP6 and Battler regains consciousness. Ange taking on Erika's resolve, even going so far as using her quotes, was really badass. She is entertaining as hell, a lovely rival to Battler, and quite honestly I think I just might enjoy the Trick ending more than the Magic ending because of it. What was she seeing? What appeared before her? If there were hints about this then they definitely went over my head.Įpisodes 5 and 6 I simply adore because of the addition of Furudo Erika. Her attendant and the captain don’t see anything, and she says something about “So this really is magic…” iirc. Side note: In EP4, when Ange talks to the ship captain before her journey, she stops while walking out of the store, terrified of something she’s seeing in the corner. Ange destroying the Sisters and Magic in a fit of frustration was so depressing to watch, especially when it got to Mammon. Everything about EP4 I loved, Ange was great (and continued to be great in later episodes). It completely re-contextualized the earlier episodes, where Maria would desperately chant 'Uu-uu' while Rosa abused her. What seemed like a verbal tic actually being an incantation intended to preserve love with her mother. This episode easily had the moment where I shed the thickest tears, and it's when the truth is revealed behind the meaning of Maria's 'Uu-uu'. Like ooh, a new witch shows up even worse than her and now she's good, kinda obvious route to take the story, it seems? But the execution was so heartwarming that I loved it anyway, and then in the last three minutes R07 just completely flips me on my head and spits all over me in a betrayal that I really did not see coming.Įpisode 4.
I really did think Beatrice was turning to the good side, even if it seemed predictable. My god, it's been a while since I've felt that betrayed in a game / story.
Combined with the stellar, tense soundtrack playing throughout the scene, I had chills. When the youngest three are attempting to loot Krauss, but then Krauss flips the advantage and reveals he has insider knowledge on them as well. I think the scene that officially hooked me entirely, and made me think "Oh yeah, I'm in this for the long haul", was the first time we learn of the siblings' financial troubles. There's so much to talk about, where do I even start? But it hooked me, and three months later, I've completed all Episodes. I had never completed a VN before, and with Umineko having an estimated reading time of ~120 hours, I was intimidated that I wouldn't ever actually commit. When Higurashi Gou completed airing and having a seasonal break between Sotsu airing, and everyone saying that these new Higurashi animes were acting as direct links to Umineko, I knew it was the perfect time to dive in.
